Anatomy

Example

Kailua Coffee Co.

We exist so that busy people on O'ahu get one honest, quiet moment a day - a cup whose growing, roasting and pouring are answered for by people with names. Anti-purpose: never be the fastest coffee-to-go on the street.

Chapter 00

Context & audience

In one sentence

We are a roastery with our own cafe on O'ahu: one roast per season, origin with a name, prices without asterisks. Whoever drinks coffee with us knows what they are holding.

Category

Specialty coffee roastery with its own cafe - premium without polish. One origin per season, one roaster, one location in Kailua on O'ahu. Growing, roasting and pouring in one pair of hands. Founded 2026.

Audiences

Commuters with a ritual - five mornings a week, always the same, about half the daily till. They do not buy variety, they buy reliability: same quality, same time, no menu that keeps changing. Neighbourhood at the weekend - couples or families, stay an hour, read the origin board from top to bottom, take home most of the whole beans. Highest basket, Saturday and Sunday only. They need space, quiet and someone who explains without lecturing. Travellers looking for provenance - one visit, want something that exists only here and a reason to take it with them. They need the season's story in words that fit on a bag. Deliberately not for us: people who want a large menu, syrup variants or the fastest drink on the street.

Chapter 01

Purpose, vision, mission

Purpose

We exist so that busy people on O'ahu get one honest, quiet moment a day - a cup whose growing, roasting and pouring are answered for by people with names. Anti-purpose: never be the fastest coffee-to-go on the street.

Vision

In five years a cup of coffee on O'ahu is as traceable as a fish on the menu: with place, season and name - and nobody finds that remarkable any more.

Mission

We roast one origin per season, name every provenance and every price publicly, and pour where the roasting machine stands. Every season brings a new board - and an explanation of what has changed.

Chapter 02

Positioning

Positioning category

Specialty coffee, roasted locally - premium without polish

First choice for

Chapter 03

Values

Your values

Plain speech

we say prices, origin and limits before anyone asks.

when the harvest came in smaller, the new price stood on the board a week in advance, with the reason written underneath.

Craft

one roast done properly beats five done averagely.

we cancelled the second roasting machine and sent Keanu to Kona for three months of training instead.

Closeness

our guests know the name of the person who roasted their beans.

every bag carries the roaster's initials; whoever asks gets the person, not a hotline.

Conflict rule

Plain speech beats closeness. We also tell the regular that his favourite roast will not come back this season - kindly, but on the same day we know it.

Chapter 04

Personality & voice

Archetype

The SageThe Creator

Target feeling
